The Heart of Jaffna In Jersey

In the bustling heart of Jersey’s central market, a unique culinary gem has emerged: Little Jaffna, a Sri Lankan eatery that promises an authentic experience of the rich and vibrant flavours of Jaffna. Founded by Jordy and Hannah, this eatery is a heartfelt tribute to the taste of Sri Lanka.

Jordy’s parents grew up in the landscapes of North Sri Lanka, immersed in the rich and diverse flavours of Jaffna cuisine. His childhood was filled with the aroma of spices, the sizzle of curry leaves in hot oil, and the comforting warmth of homemade dishes. Often being awoken on a Saturday morning by the sound of his mother crushing coconuts. These experiences ignited a lifelong passion for Sri Lankan food.

Whilst Hannah’s roots are firmly planted in Jersey soil. Her family has always cherished the island’s own culinary traditions. However, her adventurous palate and deep  appreciation for other cuisines led her to fall in love with the bold and complex flavours of Sri Lankan food. Together, Jordy and Hannah envisioned a place where they could share their love for the unique flavours of Sri Lanka with the people of Jersey, using the local produce to create these dishes.

Crafting an Authentic Experience

At Little Jaffna, the focus is not only on the food but also on providing an authentic cultural experience. The moment you approach the counter, you’re greeted with the warm, inviting aromas of traditional Sri Lankan spices.

The menu at Little Jaffna is a testament to Jordy’s heritage and culinary expertise. Each dish is carefully crafted to bring out the authentic flavours of Sri Lanka, from the grounded taste of Chia to the vibrance of fresh and spicy sambal. Every bite is a journey through the rich landscape of Sri Lanka.

Culinary Journey

Little Jaffna is a place where tradition meets innovation. Jordy and Hannah are continually experimenting with new recipes and ingredients, while staying true to the authentic flavours of Jaffna. Their dedication to quality and originality ensures that every dish served is a true representation of Sri Lankan cuisine.

Little Jaffna is a way for Jordy to connect with his roots and share his heritage with the island he now calls home. For Hannah, it’s an opportunity to introduce the people of Jersey to the rich and diverse flavours of Sri Lanka, creating a bridge between cultures through food.

Together, they’ve created more than an eatery - they’ve created a community. A place where people can come together and enjoy delicious food, share stories, and experience the warmth and hospitality that is at the heart of Sri Lankan culture. Little Jaffna is not just about eating; it’s about experiencing the rich tapestry of flavours and traditions that make Sri Lankan cuisine so special.
